As many of you know, there has been a very controversial case going on in Florida. Trayvon Martin , a 17 year old African American who was murdered by a neighborhood watchmen. The murderer is a 28 year old man name George Zimmerman. George Zimmerman claims that he was attacked first, and was verbally attacked by this teenage boy. But investigations have shown that not only was Trayvon unarmed, but there is no evidence proving that George Zimmerman was even attacked at all. Earlier today, a police surveillance was released to the media showing George Zimmerman entering a police station, barely looking like a man who was even attacked. There were no scars evident on his face. Yet initially he reported to have suffered from a broken nose; and head injuries from a struggle he claimed to have endured from what seems to have been a harmless 17 year old boy.

What makes this case even more upsetting is that not only was he not arrested yet for this tragedy, but his family have legal affiliations which leaves this case to have any ending. Reports also say that this is not Zimmerman’s first incident with the law. He has had his brush with the law erased- because his father, and mother are well connected with the legal system. Causing him to have what many may say,” his way” with the legal code. According to the media; they say that he has avoided being arrested for a bar fight in the past, as well as an encounter with the police for physically abusing one of his past girlfriends. Could Zimmerman believe that he is above the law and is untouchable?

Now if you have been following this case, or even if you are just now being introduced to this case by reading this article, you must be feeling some type of way. Everyone who has been keeping up with this story has activated various emotions. Some people feel sorrow for the family of Trayvon Martin, while others feel pure disgust, and anger for his murderer. The biggest question on everyone’s mind is; whether this was a hate crime. A social injustice caused by the stigma of one’s appearance. Not only by the tone of his skin, but by the way a person with free will, decided to dress one day. An African American teenage boy sporting a hoodie, an item of clothing that does not discriminate.

I ask you all, what made Trayvon Martin more of a threat? His skin color, or was it his hoodie? Would it have made it any better if he was a Caucasian teenage boy sporting a hoodie?or better yet, would it have made a difference if he were an African American female sporting a hoodie? or a Caucasian Female wearing the same attire. Would he still be alive if it were someone else in his place, and how would this trial be affected? No one knows the answers to these questions, because they are not relevant anymore. What is done is done. It is not the answers that we seek, but the questions we ask or in this case DON’T ask.

So instead of stating all the questions that everyone is asking. I will ask the questions that are not being asked. What will we as a people do? This is more than just a racial issue, this is an issue about humanity. Everyone knows how stories like this goes. Something happens to the community, whether it is a community of minorities or wealthy people; We get angry for a while, protest, and then once the story finds it’s way out of the media, we lose sight of that drive. I ask everyone reading this, what happens when the anger disappears? What happens when this story is no longer on the front page of newspapers? Do we go back to our realities until the next time something else triggers a nerve? The time for change is Now!

When your views on life change, life itself will change too. Sitting around waiting for society to change, will not happen until people start to realize that society is created by the rules people make. Do not allow Trayvon Martin to be just another sad story that you protested for a few hours, and went home to await the verdict. This may appear to be just another case, but everything that happens whether its good or bad dictates how we as a people handled it. Now im not saying to quit your day job, and become activists or take matters into your own hands. I am saying that if you are claiming to care, be consistent, and not someone who just rides the bandwagon, because it seems like the “common” thing to do.

The constant depressing stories that we have to hear about will never stop until people come together and fight! Ask yourself who is our modern day “Martin Luther King” or our “Malcom X’”? and you will be left to say there is none. In my opinion, no one can be compared to, or even suggested to be emulating these two individuals. And this is because, no one is willing to say: “I won’t be silenced”. These two leaders not only stood up for what they believed in, but they were willing to die for what it is that they lived for. I admit that we have come along way as Americans in regards to racial inequality, but there is still more work that needs to be done. There is a revolution that needs to go on, and whether that revolution is televised or not, it will be seen. My question to you is, will you be watching from a distance or will you be apart of it?

Are you waiting for a situation similar to the Trayvon’s case, to hit close to home? Remember, he could of been your son; relative, friend, or even you.

Don’t be the next victim.

Hello everyone,

we’re back with another interesting topic about fashion. Last week we discussed finding your style, and doing it with confidence. This time around,we’re here to discuss different ways of style you may want to play around with. Fashion is more than just putting on items of clothing, its a form of expression. What you wear can determine not only the mood that you are in, but also the type of personality you have.

For example: when you may not be in the best of moods, it is usually evident; because you might put an outfit together without caring. Your colors might usually reflect how you feel, hence- why so many people stick to boring, and dark colors on days like that. But enough of the depressing talk, now that you understand where this article is going, let’s have some fun.

The interesting thing about fashion is that there is so much persona’s that can be created, just by throwing on something that you’ve never tried before. As stated before what you wear says a lot about you. So we here at Saphassion ask: what does your clothes say about you?

Are you the confined lady, the sexy/fierce diva, or are you the versatile queen?

The Confined : The lady that usually does not show much skin, covers up, and can be very reserved with what she chooses to wear. Usually does not take adventures to different stores, because she is satisfied with allowing her closet rack to be very predictable.

The Sexy/Fierce Diva: This Diva demands attention whenever she enters a room. She loves to embrace her sexiness and is a very daring dresser. Usually shows skin; whether its from slight cleavage or modeling her legs.

And last but not least….

The Versatile queen: This is the definition of a versatile dresser, She usually plays the game very well. Not allowing anyone to know exactly what look she might have next, she jumps from any look depending on how she feels. She can be reserved, and sexy at the same time,or fluctuate from one look to the next. She is usually the type that doesn’t demand attention, because it usually comes her way without trying. And what makes her a “Queen” is because her personality overpowers all of her outfits.

Here at Saphassion, we promote confidence at all times. There are so many things that can make a person look good besides a certain “look”, and confidence is number one. Fashion should not be taken so seriously, actually it’s like a game, if you play it the right way.

Saphassion’s Mission Impossible: Finding the perfect outfit

Round one: Unlocking Destination

Usually the first round in every game is the easiest.

But in the “Fashion World” this is actually the hardest level to complete.

Tips:

Plan ahead of time.

Do not wait last minute to get an attire for an event, unless the event itself is last minute. But even then you must Hustle.( Hustle to get an outfit.)

Your attire should also be fitting for the occasion. All eyes should be on your attire.” Because it’s wonderful” not because you are out of place.

CHECKPOINT:

Yes, Checkpoint. You have not actually completed the round because when it comes to shopping for clothes, things never actually go according to plans. You’re probably still trying to find the perfect outfit. And that’s fine. Perfection does not happen over night, but on the brighter side you have actually made progress. Now you are aware of what it is that you want to wear.

Round Two: Find the look

In this round, it’s all about taking the idea you have in your mind, and actually putting it together. Find the place to buy this outfit. Make sure you have more than one look for back up.

Tip:

Never buy the first thing you see, it’s usually wise to have other options so you don’t walk out the store- find something else, and regret your first purchase.

Never buy the mannequin. It is too effortless- Obvious-displays no sense of style or originality.

Checkpoint:

Now that you have your outfit, believe it or not, you are still not done… you have to accessorize it with shoes, jewelry (if needed) and completing your look with getting your hair and make-up done.

If make-up is not an option for you. Wear a sparkling lip-gloss.

Round 3: Knock ‘F’ Out : {knock the F- out of Fashion}

Dress until “YOU” are satisfied, and “YOU” like what You’re seeing in the mirror.

At the end of round 3.Consider yourself a champion. Game over! You’ve Won!

Remember:

Every outfit has its place.

Before you get dress. Ask yourself:

”How do I want to play?’

Spring is finally here! which means out with the old,and in with the new clothes. Not only does everyone want to make sure their closet is at its best, but to also keep up with the latest “Fashion”. This brings us to the question as to what is even considered fashion, and who has the power to even say what is good or bad fashion. The technical definition for fashion is defined as “something, such as a garment, that is in the current mode”.

Here at Saphassion we encourage people not to follow trends simply because it is current, but because they find style in what it is that they are purchasing. Everyone has their own personality; this is the main thing in finding out which style suits you best. Do not follow someone else’s style because that look, may not make you comfortable, and when dressing, comfort is everything. Be confident in your body and in your own taste, but also be aware that there may be people that do not agree with what you choose to wear and that is okay.

When you discover your style, you’ll find out that you will stop worrying about what’s in and what isn’t, because your style will never expire. We here at Saphassion want to inspire everyone to be trendsetters, but most importantly to feel beautiful in your own skin. Now this does not mean not to support new releases or to be stuck in the Stone Age era of dressing, unless that’s the look that you’re going for. But to make sure that the motivation behind all your purchases are what you want to wear, and not what others think you should be wearing. Remember, if you spend most of your time trying to live up to others expectations of your appearance, you’ll ignore your obligation to yourself.

Tip #1

Find out what clothes compliments your body type.

Tip #2

Ownership of your style; be confident of your choices.

Tip# 3

Wear colors that bring out your personality. You will be surprise how much you can tell about someone by the colors they wear.

Tip #4

Don’t be afraid to be different, Dare to be you !!
